Stereotypes

When thinking about adoption, there are a lot of misconceptions and stereotypes that often concern people and can scare them away from adoption. So I just want to go over some of the myths about adoption people have and to help with their concerns.

One of the first things you need to realize is that the adoption agencies aren't looking for the perfect families. Every body is different and every family is different in their own way. There are many children that need to be adopted and its just a matter of finding a family they will fit in with. We believe that every child has the right to a loving, nurturing and permanent family, and that the people from a variety of life experiences off strengths for these children (Breaking Stereotypes).

Another big myth is about adoption is that you have to have a lot of money to do it and this isn't true. You don't have to own your own home or meet a pre-determined income level to be eligible. Your income may come from employment, a pension or disability payments (Breaking Stereotypes). Yes you do have to have an income because you are going to need to be able to provide for the child that you are adopting but you don't have to be a millionaire by any means.

I hope these are just a few of the misconceptions that can be cleared up for people.

  1. Love this!! I have 4 adopted cousins, 2 on each side of my extended family. Couldn't be happier to have all of them as part of my family. Great topic.

  2. This is a good post about breaking some of the stereotypes. I know that many people believe you have to be very well off, and a perfect family to adopt. Thanks!
